Commending the Ocean View Coordinating Committee.

Agreed to by the Senate, February 17, 2005 Agreed to by the House of Delegates, February 25, 2005 WHEREAS, in early 1975, the Ocean View Lions Club formed a Civic Affairs Committee to address the serious needs of the Ocean View community of Norfolk; and WHEREAS, the newly formed committee met weekly to discuss in depth the needs of Ocean View, including the prime item on the agenda: establishing a shopping center; and WHEREAS, after much hard work and many committee appearances before Norfolk City Council, the Ocean View Shopping Center was built; and WHEREAS, on November 21, 1975, the first meeting of what would later become the Ocean View Coordinating Committee was held, and the group requested the assistance of all civic leagues, garden clubs, and service and business organizations in Ocean View; and WHEREAS, the Ocean View Coordinating Committee is a coalition of eight area civic leagues and business and service organizations that represent the citizens of Ocean View, an area that has experienced new development and growth; and WHEREAS, over the years, the Ocean View Coordinating Committee has established and met many goals to improve the Ocean View community, starting with the shopping center and including a boardwalk to the Chesapeake Bay beach, improved traffic flow and parking, the establishment of parks and conservation areas, and the founding of the Ocean View Station Museum; and WHEREAS, among the items remaining on the agenda for the Ocean View Coordinating Committee are a Walk of Fame, an Ocean View elementary school, and the development of the new Pretlow Library; and WHEREAS, over its 30 years of service to the community, the Ocean View Coordinating Committee has established a record of substantial achievement, based on the cooperation and united effort of a diverse group of neighbors; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend the Ocean View Coordinating Committee on the occasion of its 30th anniversary; and, be it RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Ocean View Coordinating Committee as an expression of the General Assembly's appreciation for its leadership of the Ocean View community of Norfolk.
